Research Ethics
Ethics in Research on Right-Wing Extremism
Questions of research ethics concern the appropriate, respectful, and responsible treatment of all those involved in the research process, including study participants, researchers, and the public. This collaborative research project examines, promotes, and supports ethically sensitive approaches within the association and will consolidate the findings in a guideline.
One area of concern is the ethical use of digital fingerprints of the actors being studied. The handling of (potential) attacks and hostility directed at researchers in the field of right-wing extremism research and the mental strain caused by working with far-right agitation will also be explored. Additionally, there is the question of how research findings can be made accessible to the public without unintentionally contributing to the spread of far-right perspectives, propaganda, or ideologies of inequality, to name just a few of the challenges to be addressed.
